The Milford Rotary Club delivered a giant ceremonial check Tuesday evening to the Lyndeborough Monument Committee to support construction of a new Revolutionary War monument.

The donation was part of the Milford Rotary Clubโs 75th anniversary plan to donate to
projects in the five communities they serve during their anniversary year.
Rotary Club Member Jay Dinkle said, โWe are delighted to be able to give our hard-
earned funds we raised back to the community and to be part of the Lyndeborough
celebration of their Revolutionary War heroes. Itโs a great thing. We are happy to be
part of that.โ
Rotary Club Member Tom Grella added, โCongrats to the Town of Lyndeborough. You had
a lot of people being part of the Revolutionary War. The largest group of any town in
our area at the Bukner Hill and Breedโs Hill battles down in Boston.โ
Monument Committee member Walter Holland said, โThere were Lyndeborough men at
the Battle of Bunker Hill, Breedโs Hill. They were there because they answered the call
and they marched down there. They were there on that battle. There was also a
Lyndeborough man at the surrender at Yorktown, when Gen. Cornwallis surrendered
and all the battles in between. That is quite a legacy.โ
โWe reached out to all five towns for suggestions. Lyndeborough had the perfect
suggestion with the plans to do this memorial, which fit in perfectly with our timing,โ said
Dinkle.
Besides the war monument, the Rotary Club anniversary funds included Wiltonโs new
sound system and improved the signage on the archway at the Milford Community
Center. โPrior to that, there were two-by-fours that held signs; now they can hang them on the new archway. That was something that was really needed,โ said Dinkle. They also contributed to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Milford and high school seniors benefit from $50,000 in scholarships to Milford High School, Souhegan High School and the Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative High School.
Dinkle said, โWe raise and give back over $100,000 a year. Itโs a lot of work, but
itโs a lot of fun and we are happy to support the community.โ
The Rotary Club holds three large fundraisers throughout the year: 100 Holes
of Golf in One Day, Christmas tree sales, and its annual Labor Day Pancake
Breakfast.
The Lyndeborough Monument Committee said it is honored to receive the Rotary Clubโs anniversary funding, which significantly advances its $26,000 fundraising goal for the monument.
Additional fundraisers include a patriotic quilt raffle, an anniversary challenge coin,
merchandise sales and donations. A community dedication ceremony is planned for August
15 at 3 p.m. at Memorial Park.
