The Mariposa Museum & World Culture Center has reopened with a new exhibit, โ€œA Glimpse of South Africa: A Celebration of the Rainbow Nation Through Photography and Fine Craft,โ€ on view from March 5 through June 14.

The exhibit features photography and handcrafted works highlighting South Africaโ€™s landscapes and cultures. Items on display include photography by Steven Lipofsky, ironwood carvings of South African wildlife, ceramics and fine pewter, basketry and beadwork, and handcrafted wood pieces.

The works are drawn from the Mariposa Museumโ€™s collection and from private collectors in the Monadnock region.

Two special presentations are scheduled in conjunction with the exhibit.

On March 14 at 4 p.m., Robert Stephenson of Jaffrey will present โ€œAfrica: North, South, East & West, Up & Down, In & Around 1972โ€“1973.โ€ Stephenson will share slides and stories from a yearlong journey across Africa in the early 1970s that took him from London to Kenya, Ethiopia, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Senegal.

On March 29 at 3 p.m., photographer Steve Lipofsky will present โ€œThe Colors of South Africa,โ€ sharing photographs and stories from a monthlong trip across the country that included Cape Town, Cape Point, Durban and Kruger National Park.
