One person has died and another remains in critical condition following an early-morning house fire in Troy on Tuesday, March 31.

According to New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Troy Fire Chief Mark Huntoon and Troy Police Chief David Ellis Jr., crews were dispatched to 51 Morse St. at approximately 1:45 a.m. after a resident reported a chimney fire that had spread to the homeโ€™s porch. A second 911 call moments later indicated the caller was trapped inside as the fire intensified.

Firefighters arrived within minutes to find heavy fire conditions and entered the home, rescuing two occupants. A 56-year-old man was transported to Cheshire Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. A 24-year-old woman was flown by Life Flight to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries and was last reported in critical condition. Family pets also perished in the fire.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of the manโ€™s death.
