Reston, VA – Marjorie Vaughan Lane, 92, of Reston, VA, passed away on January 5, 2026. Born June 14, 1933, in Attleboro, MA, Marjorie lived a life defined by intellectual curiosity, compassion, and a deep connection to her community, friends and loved ones.
A lifelong learner, she earned degrees from UMass, Stanford, and Howard University, culminating in a Master of Theological Studies from Wesley Theological Seminary at age 74. Marjorie dedicated her career to helping others as a respected psychotherapist and clinical social worker.
Marjorie’s life was defined by community, vitality, and friendship. A cherished fixture in both the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston and the Reston Runners, she was equally at home running marathons, biking through Europe, or gathering around a table with friends and family. She married Jonathan “Jock” Lane in 1955, raising three children together. Later in life, she found renewed love with Robert Wendall Howard, whom she married at 86.
She is survived by her children, Frederic, Martha, and David Lane; sister, Jane Barron; and beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands and siblings, Herbert and Carolyn.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 25, 2026, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or a favorite charity. Contact: david.lane.email@gmail.com
