A rare screening of D.W. Griffithโ€™s silent film โ€œAmericaโ€ (1924) will be held Sunday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall Theatre in downtown Wilton.

The event is part of local commemorations of the nationโ€™s upcoming 250th anniversary and will feature live musical accompaniment by New Hampshire composer Jeff Rapsis.

The film depicts key events of the American Revolution, including the Boston Tea Party, Paul Revereโ€™s ride and the Battle of Yorktown, and was one of early Hollywoodโ€™s first large-scale portrayals of the war.

Admission is free, with a suggested $10 donation to support the theaterโ€™s silent film programming.

Rapsis will improvise the score during the screening, recreating the live music experience typical of the silent film era.
