Mary Adams of the New Hampshire Historical Society delivered a presentation Thursday evening at the Wilton Library exploring New Hampshireโ€™s role in the American Revolution.

Speaking to a packed audience, Adams described the Revolution as three interconnected upheavals โ€” political, military and constitutional โ€” with deep roots in New Hampshire.

Among the topics discussed was the 1774 raid on Fort William and Mary in Portsmouth, which Adams noted occurred months before the battles of Lexington and Concord and is considered one of the first armed acts of rebellion against the British Crown. She also highlighted the life and legacy of Gen. John Stark, sharing lesser-known details about the New Hampshire military leader.

The event was part of a weeklong series leading up to Wiltonโ€™s Celebration of Americaโ€™s 250th Anniversary on Saturday, May 9. The free, family-friendly celebration in downtown Wilton will feature Revolutionary War reenactors, a Liberty Tree dedication, music, barbecue and other activities.
