The Antrim Celebrates America Committee is planning a series of events this summer to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Festivities will begin July 4 from noon to 4 p.m. at Shea Field, featuring games and activities inspired by the 18th century. Organizers said attendees can expect historical reenactors in period clothing, demonstrations of colonial-era life and samples of traditional foods such as ham, beans and cornbread.

The celebration will continue July 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in Antrimโ€™s old Centre district with a focus on local residents who contributed to the Revolutionary War effort. Events will include a walking tour of historical sites, including Meeting House Hill and the Centre area near the Grange and Old Parsonage. Participants also will visit historic burying grounds honoring local patriots and take part in a scavenger hunt highlighting their lives and contributions.

The committee also is organizing a townwide patriotic decorating contest for homes, sheds, yards and other properties. Organizers encourage residents to complete decorations by Flag Day on June 14. The winner will be announced July 4. Additional details will be posted on social media.

The Antrim Celebrates America Committee received a small financial contribution from the town to support the events.
