Families and residents gathered on Sunday for Hancock’s annual Independence Day fireworks and celebration at Moose Brook Park.
Children ran around playing in the baseball field and running around the park in anticipation of the fireworks while local bands played in the background. Many participants dressed up in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Three bands played throughout the evening, including Danielle Miraglia, Rusty Barings and the Eyes of Age,
Three local groups used the celebration to fundraise for the town. The Hancock Depot Association organized the concert and provided the classic hot dogs and hamburgers for sale. The Hancock Fire Department was there selling tickets for the annual auxiliary raffle which will be drawn in August. Finally, the town was taking donations for parking to pay for the following year’s fireworks.
While the concert has only been part of the fireworks celebration for the past three years, Amy Markus, the Hancock Town Library librarian, said this event has taken place for over 40 years.
The town plans to keep the annual celebration going for the next 40 years.
Celebrating the 250th anniversary of the nation doesn’t stop there; the Hancock Town Library is also hosting an event on July 4th. Local children will read the Declaration of Independence, apple pie will be served and the church bells will be rung in celebration of the history of the United States.
