Authorities on Monday identified a 24-year-old man found dead of apparent gunshot wounds following a Sunday night dispute between neighbors. An off-duty police officer was also hospitalized with stab wounds during the incident.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. outside residences on Grove Street, according to a joint statement from New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall.

Responding officers discovered the body of Jack Hutchings, 24, of Peterborough, at the scene. The second individual, an off-duty officer with the Peterborough Police Department whose name has not been released, was found with apparent stab or incised wounds.

He was reportedly released from the hospital on Tuesday.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Hutchings on Monday. Authorities said the cause and manner of death will be released once his next of kin have been fully notified.

State and local officials said the investigation is active and ongoing. Investigators are currently working to determine if the individual who shot Hutchings was acting in self-defense.
