Naturalist Steven Lamonde will lead the “Hancock Moth Ball” on Monday, July 20, offering a free nighttime look into the region’s nocturnal insect population.
The event, held in conjunction with National Moth Week, begins at 9 p.m. in the field behind the Hancock Town Library. A rain date is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.
Lamonde, an ecologist and educator who has cataloged local biodiversity since moving to Hancock in 2020, will use specialized lighting to showcase some of the town’s more than 600 moth species. Organizers advise attendees to dress for cooler evening weather and wear long sleeves and pants.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
