Veterans and community members gathered Saturday in Antrim to dedicate a new flagpole at the Don Dunlap Gazebo in front of Tuttle Library in Antrim.

The dedication was a culmination of a two-year project created to commemorate former Antrim resident Don Dunlap.  Dunlap, a cabinet-maker whose work can be found in museums throughout the state, bequeathed funds to the Edward  Tuttle Library and the Antrim Historical Society upon his death in 2019 to help the Town of Antrim. After the town donated a piece of land in front of the library for the project, the Tuttle Library and the  Historical Society partnered to build gazebo in Dunlap’s name to commemorate his many contributions to the town.

As part of the flagpole dedication, Antrim’s state representative, Jim Creighton, presented a proclamation signed by Gov. Chris Sununu stating  that a U.S. flag and a New Hampshire state flag were flown over the New Hampshire State House in honor of the J.A. Tuttle Memorial Library and the Don Dunlap Memorial Gazebo and Walkway. The flags will now be flown permanently on Antrim’s new flagpole.

The site of the gazebo includes a lighted memorial brick walkway with bricks donated by  the public in memory or in  honor of friends and family. Don Dunlap’s nephew, John Dunlap, a local mason, helped prepare the site of the walkway and volunteered as project lead. The gazebo, constructed by Amish woodworkers, was completed by volunteers in June 2022.
