Antrim Newcomers Club is hosting a meetup at the Antrim Fire Station Saturday, March 25, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

At Saturday’s event, Fire Chief Marshall Gale will give a presentation about the Fire Department and staff from The Grapevine will present on their organization. There will be coffee from the The Moka Pot, and the Newcomers Group will provide snacks.

After moving to Antrim from Colorado last summer, Jenine Rubin co-founded the Antrim Newcomers Club with two other newcomers, Jennifer Addams and Mary Devine.

“It’s a way to try to get other people to connect to Antrim and meet each other,” Rubin said.

Her goals of the event are to have people new to Antrim meet each other and to introduce people to different parts of town. This is the second event the group has held. The first was at the James A. Tuttle Library, which included a tour of the historical museum on the top floor.

“The people who came to the event before had the same feeling my co-founders and myself have,” Rubin said. “How do you start to meet people?”

Inspired partly by Peterborough’s monthly meetup for new residents, Rubin said, “This wasn’t going to happen unless we did it. We decided to just start it.”

“I am trying to find my place in Antrim,” Rubin said.

Rubin appreciates living in a small town, how easy it is to get involved and engaged with town government and groups. And she wants the Antrim Newcomers Club to offer a “way for people to meet other folks.”

All Antrim residents are welcome, even people not new to Antrim. Rubin expects the event to be family friendly, especially with the opportunity for children to touch a fire truck, but she hopes to get a wide range of residents of different ages.

Rubin said the group hopes to hold monthly meetings at different locations and is planning a community fair in June, highlighting different volunteer organizations and activities in town.
