Antrim Eclectic Book Club will discuss "The Good Earth" by Pearl Buck Thursday, May 18, from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the James A. Tuttle Library, 45 Main St. in Antrim.

"The Good Earth," Buck’s exploration of rural family life in early 20th century China, won the Pulitzer Prize. Among the matters club members will probe are Buck’s primary messages, whether smothering one’s daughter is an unforgivable sin, if American missionaries deserve the mockery Buck accords them and whether Wang Lung’s family seeming to disconnect from the land is an inevitable consequence of modernization?

The Antrim Eclectic Book Club meets the  third Thursday of each month between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. Free copies of the books will be available at the library.
