Antrim Fire Department extinguishes brush burn due to high fire danger

The Antrim Fire Department extinguished a burning brush pile on Pleasant Street Saturday afternoon due to high fire danger.

The landowner had obtained a permit for a campfire, but the brush pile that Fire Department personnel was much more substantial than what the permit allowed, Fire Chief Marshall Gale said. There was a Red Flag warning for wildfires in the area to boot at the time, he said, and although the landowner had made efforts to burn safely, the Fire Department still used a brush truck to properly extinguish the blaze.

When a person applies for a fire permit online, they indicate that they understand the regulations and the extent of the permit as part of the process, Gale said.

Red Flag warnings are issued by the National Weather service when warm temperatures, very low humidity, and high winds increase the risk of fire danger. Saturday’s warning covered most of New Hampshire, the first such warning of the year for the state, as reported by WMUR.
