Nine candidates appeared at the annual Antrim Grange candidates night Wednesday evening at the Town Hall Theatre.

Four candidates are running for the two open spots on the Planning Board. Dennis Young spoke about how his background in technology, facilities and commercial real estate will be valuable. Young noted that he is a lifetime member of the Antrim Historical Society as well as a member of the Antrim Grange.

“I’m excited about the progress happening in Antrim, with the business district an the downtown, and at Gregg Lake,” Young said.  “Recreation is one of our great assets.”

Young noted that 2027 is Antrim’s 250th year.

“The 250th is part of our vision for the future,” Young said.

Planning Board candidate Michael Devine cited his experience in senior management and project management, including overseas.

“I’m a good listener. You could not get anything done in my position without listening to other people. And I’m retired, so I have time to devote to the Planning Board,” Devine said.

Devine and Young are running against incumbents William Fluhr and Michael Redmond, who did not attend the event.

William Bryk, an attorney who has served in many positions for Antrim, including as supervisor of the checklist and as Antrim’s ConVal School Board representative, is running for Select Board against John Robertson, who previously served five terms on the board before being defeated last year by Bob Edwards.

Robertson cited his decades of experience on the Select Board, including as chair, while Bryk detailed his experience working for the government in New York as fiduciary guardian for incapacitated persons and praised the town’s fiscal responsibility.

Town Clerk Diane Chauncey outlined the duties of the position and how the job has evolved since she first started working for the town.

“My job is to make your trip to the Town Hall as easy and painless as possible,” Chauncey said.

Chauncey’s opponent in the town clerk race, Mary Wardman Sherman, was not present at the event.

Steven Burkhardt and Clark Craig Jr. are both running for the open seat on the Cemetery Commission. Clark was not present at the event.

“I am passionate about history, and I care deeply about the cemetery, which is across the street from our house, as well as all the other cemeteries,” Burkhardt said.  “I would be honored to serve at cemetery trustee.”

Eric Tenney, 83, who has been the town’s treasurer for over 30 years, said this is the last time he would be running.

“They couldn’t get anyone else to do it,” he said.

Attendees at the event did not have any specific questions for the candidates.

The town election will be Tuesday, March 12, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., upstairs in the Town Hall Theatre.
