Antrim Hazardous Waste Day is May 4

Antrim will hold its Hazardous Waste Day Sunday, May 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Transfer Station, 44 Municipal Drive.

The event is open to residents of Antrim, Deering, Greenfield, Hillsborough and Windsor. This collection is for household hazardous waste only—no commercial or business waste will be accepted. Residents must remain in their vehicles and all materials should be in original containers with labels.

Accepted items include oil-based paint and stains, paint thinners, strippers, spray paint, furniture polish, floor and metal polishes, oven and drain cleaners, bathroom and tile cleaners, and ammonia-based cleaners. Also accepted are antifreeze, engine and radiator flushes, brake and transmission fluids, gasoline, diesel, kerosene, auto body repair products, carburetor cleaner, creosote, roofing tar, driveway sealer, pool chemicals and household batteries. 

Other items include mercury thermometers and thermostats, compact fluorescent bulbs, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, flea powder, mothballs, insect sprays, rodent killers, hobby and artist supplies, photography chemicals, chemistry sets, nail polish and remover, and fluorescent tubes (four feet and under).

Items that will not be accepted include latex paint, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, fire extinguishers, medical waste such as prescriptions and syringes, asbestos, radioactive materials, electronics and propane tanks.
