Electric Earth Concerts plans to present soprano Fiona Gillespie with members of ACRONYM in Jaffrey

A Celtic music craze that gripped Europe in the time of Haydn, Beethoven and Weber produced wondrous Scottish and Irish inspired chamber music, performed here by soprano Fiona Gillespie and members of ACRONYM: Emi Ferguson, flute and soprano, Elliot Figg, piano, Edwin Huizinga, violin, Kivie Cahn-Lipman, cello, and Doug Balliett, bass. The program will include works by Weber, Haydn, Pleyel, Koželuch, Beethoven, Clementi, Schubert, Kuhlau, Hummel and Doug Balliett (world premiere).

Praised for her "brilliant sound" (San Francisco Classical Voice) and "silver tone" (The Reading Eagle), soprano Fiona Gillespie enjoys traversing the country, performing in genres from Medieval to Modern, folk to opera. She especially enjoys focusing on the performance of small, one-on-a-part chamber music.  Fiona is a classical and folk singer based in Eastern Pennsylvania and New York City. Raised in a family of Celtic musicians, she grew up singing ballads and playing the Irish whistle, on which she competed nationally and internationally until 2006. Fiona then earned degrees in classical voice, specializing in early music, from Westminster Choir College (BM) and the University of North Texas (MM).

Fiona will be joined by members of ACRONYM...performing with “...consummate style, grace, and unity of spirit” (The New York Times). ACRONYM’s musicians can be heard in Apollo’s Fire, Tafelmusik, Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Early Music Festival, the English Concert, International Contemporary Ensemble and Chicago Lyric Opera.

Admission is $25, and may be purchased online at http://electricearthconcerts.org or at the door.  Middle school and high school students are welcome to attend for free.
