Gov. Lincoln Chafee visits

Former Gov. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, who recently declared his candidacy for president, is scheduled to attend the Blue BBQ Saturday at the Hillsborough Fire Department picnic grounds. The event was organized by the Antrim and Hillsborough Democrats.

The event includes keynote speaker Prof. Lawrence Lessig, founder of the N.H. Rebellion, and House Minority Leader Steve Shurtleff. A representative of the Hillary Clinton campaign will also be in attendance.

The barbecue, with vegetarian options, will run from noon to 4 p.m. Music will be provided by Off the Cuff and The Bible Hill Boys. There will be face painting and other activities for kids. Chafee is expected to speak at 1:30 p.m. Lessig, a professor at Harvard, will speak at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for kids 12 and under with a maximum of $40 per family. Reservations are recommended by calling Gil at 464-3850.

Chafee previously served as U.S. Senator, first as an appointee after his father Senator John Chafee’s death in 1999. He won an election to continue his term in 2000, but was defeated in his 2006 reelection bid.
