The Jaffrey Fire Department is searching for answers after a pickup truck’s engine compartment became engulfed in flames while sitting in a driveway over the weekend.

Firefighters responded to a Bradley Court residence after receiving a call at 9:33 a.m. Saturday, for a report of a pickup truck that caught on fire. The cause of the fire is currently unknown, according to Police Chief David Chamberlain.

“We are still looking into possible causes but there is nothing suspicious at this time,” said Chamberlain, who said that the fire department is looking into electrical problems as a potential cause of the fire.

Upon arrival, the firefighters tried to knock down the fire with portable fire suppression systems. When that didn’t work, the department called in a fire engine to suppress the fire.

The engine compartment had originally caught on fire, but the fire spread to the passenger compartment. While the vehicle was damaged, there were no reported injuries.

The pickup truck had been sitting in the driveway around eight feet from the house, according to Chamberlain.
