PETERBOROUGH — A day after Republican presidential candidate John Kasich criticized the media for fawning over his opponent, Donald Trump, Kasich said he plans to win the primary by continuing to meet voters face-to-face.

“[I’ll] keep doing what I did here tonight,” he told the Ledger-Transcript, following an event outside of The Petersons Real Estate on Grove Street Friday. “I’ll be everywhere.”

While the event was advertised as a meet-and-greet, the governor of Ohio delivered a half-an-hour stump speech on the front steps of the building and fielded questions from the dozens gathered around him. Not including the event, Kasich said he had held 41 town halls, one of which was at the Monadnock Country Club this summer.

But, the town halls, house parties and obligatory stops haven’t rebounded Kasich’s polling numbers in New Hampshire. According to realclearpolitics.com, he remains behind Trump, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Dr. Ben Carson.

Nevertheless, Kasich was optimistic Friday. “If I do well here, I’m going to end up being president,” he said, about the primary.

Characterizing himself as a problem solver, Kasich said he would combat the threat of domestic terrorism by providing more resources for intelligence. He said he would also lift business regulations to grow the economy.

Cy Gregg of Peterborough was impressed with Kasich’s “forthrightness.” Gregg agreed Kasich was a problem solver, and favors him, along with Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey and Jeb Bush.

Ed Juengst of Peterborough wanted to size up Kasich, but liked his accomplishments as governor and as a longtime congressman.
