State Police have arrested a New Ipswich resident on charges of breaking into the New Ipswich Market on Christmas Day.

According to State Police, on Sunday, Dec. 25, just before 5 a.m., New Hampshire Troop B officers responded to a reported burglary and theft at the New Ipswich Market, located on 575 Turnpike Road.

The market owner and an employee were on the scene when police arrived. Employees of the market reported when they arrived at the store, they had found a smashed-out window. At some point overnight, someone had broken the window, entered the store and stolen money and cigarettes.

According to State Police, with the assistance of store surveillance footage, store employees were able to help identify a suspect for police, Daniel Depauw, 48, of New Ipswich. Police located Depauw at a gas station in Milford, where he was initially questioned.

Following an investigation, police performed a second interview with Depauw, during which he allegedly confessed to being the person who had entered the store and stolen the money and cigarettes.

Depauw was arrested Thursday, Jan. 5, at approximately 11 a.m. at the Troop B Barracks in Bedford. Depauw was charged with burglary and theft by unauthorized taking, both felonies. Depauw was released on personal recognizance bail and issued a court date of Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Hillsborough County Superior Court.

This case remains open. If anyone has information related to this incident, contact Trooper William Moran at 603-223-8492 or william.j.moran@dos.nh.gov.
