A Greenville woman was arrested on assault charges after she allegedly shut a door on a police officer on May 3.

Brittney Christianson, 30, was charged with assault on Temple-Greenville Sgt. Michael Needham. Chief James McTague said Needham was responding to a mutual aid domestic disturbance call at 96 Crestwood Lane.

The assault was not serious, he said. McTague did not provide information on Needham’s injury.

“She attempted to shut the door and struck the officer,” McTague said. He added that officers had to engage with Christianson in order to get her into handcuffs.

Christianson was also charged with resisting arrest.

Assaulting a police officer is not a distinct charge in New Hampshire, McTague said, so violators are simply listed with an assault charge. There is no additional penalty for offenses against officers, which is why they are so seldom listed in police logs, McTague said.

“This is not unique,” he said.

Punishment for a simple assault can be up to one year in jail, and up to $2,000 in fines, according to state statute.
