The NHIAA baseball and softball seasons got underway with the first game action Monday afternoon.

SOFTBALL

Conant 13, Fall Mountain 0

Graecen Kirby was in the K-zone Monday afternoon, mowing down 13 Wildcats on the way to a one-hit, one-walk shutout of Fall Mountain at Community Field.

Older sister Teagan Kirby was on fire at the plate, going 3-4, driving in five runs and ending the game in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run double that put Conant over the 12-run mercy rule threshold.

Bella Hayes (1-3, 3B), Rylee Herr (2-2, 2 R, 2 SB), and Graecen Kirby also drove in runs for the Orioles.

Conant (1-0) is at Campbell Wednesday and hosts Monadnock Friday.

BASEBALL

Mascenic 8, Kearsarge 5

The Vikings got things going early, with two runs in the first and three in the second on their way to a wire-to-wire win over Kearsarge to open the season Monday.

Sean Agonis (1-2, 2R) drove in three runs for the Vikings; Hunter Kaarto and Blaine Krook also drove in runs. Jackson Cocozella pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out five; he also scored three runs.

Hayes Pearson pitched one inning for the save.

Mascenic (1-0) was set to host Raymond Wednesday and play at Hopkinton Friday.

Fall Mountain 12, Conant 4

Fall Mountain used an eight-run second inning to run away with a road win in Jaffrey Monday afternoon.

Jordan Ketola and Luke Lambert drove in runs for the Orioles; Lane Leclair (2-4, 2R) and Corey Collins (2-3) had multi-hit days for Conant. Jacson Cross pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief.

Conant (0-1) was set to play at Campbell Wednesday and host Monadnock Friday.

Derryfield 14, WLC 4

Sean Brennan took a no-hitter into the fourth inning for the Warriors Monday, but WLC was done in by a slew of errors in their season-opening loss.

WLC (0-1) was set to host Epping Wednesday and Sunapee Friday.
