ConVal senior Maddy Faber has been named as a winner of the prestigious Jack Ford Memorial Scholar Athlete Award, an annual honor awarded to New Hampshire’s best and brightest basketball players whose contributions extend off the court and into the classroom and community.
“I’m extremely honored to get this award,” Faber said. “Coach [Kevin] Proctor would always tell me that being a part of ConVal women’s basketball was more than just a sport, it was important for us to be involved in the community and be an example to all as a student-athlete. I think that this award represents everything the program stands for, and after being a part of this program for four years, this award means so much for me to receive.”
Proctor said he considers the Jack Ford Award the highest honor a high school player can receive. The NHBCO selects only three or four total players from across the state for this honor each year. This year, Faber was selected alongside Sophie Grondin of Pittsburg-Canaan and Johnny Meyer of Exeter. The judging process equally weighs players in three different categories: basketball performance, academic performance and citizenship/community service.
