The ConVal-Conant Griffins boys’ hockey team kick-started the year with an exciting win over the Hollis Brookline-Derryfield Warriors 4-3 in overtime Wednesday night at the Conway Arena in Nashua. The Warriors came out flying controlling the play for the better part of the first period.

Senior goaltender Wyatt Robbins came up with several big saves, allowing the Griffins time to build their confidence. As the period continued the Griffins started to provide pressure of their own and opened the scoring with a goal from German exchange student Luca Haufler with 1:15 remaining.

The Warriors came right back 35 seconds later a goal by Conner Glosser to even the score.

The second period started quickly for the Griffins with a nifty breakaway goal by junior co-captain Matt Kolk, set up by Ryan Corcoran.

The 2-1 lead lasted throughout the second until the Warriors tied it again with a quick shot from Nick Depolito making it 2-2.

Much like the second, the third period had the Griffins scoring first, with Trevor Johnson pouncing on a rebound drive by Palmer Timmons to make it 3-2.

The Warriors never gave up and continued to play hard allowing Depolito to score his second of the night to knot it up at 3-3.

The overtime was exciting as both teams had great chances to win, but it was the Griffins’ Aidan Kirby who came up big, with a quick shot from 15 feet that beat Patrick McDonald for the game winner.

“A great way to start the season!” said CC Griffins head coach Mark Leger.

ConVal-Conant was set to play Berlin on Saturday, but the game was snowed out. The Griffins (1-0) travel to Kearsarge-Plymouth (0-1) Wednesday at 5 p.m.
