This press release follows the Select Board’s meeting on March 16, 2020, at 5 p.m. This situation is evolving rapidly, and information will be updated as necessary.

The Peterborough Select Board, Town Administrator Rodney Bartlett, and Chief Edmund Walker announce the following changes to normal business until further notice:

■Town offices will be staffed and open to the public, however those wishing to do business with the town are reminded that many of the Town’s services are available online, via email or phone. For more information on how your Town business may be conducted remotely, visit our website www.townofpeterborough.com or call (603) 924-8000

Recreation

■Senior programming, including Senior Lunch, have been postponed or cancelled.

■Organized sports seasons managed in coordination with Peterborough Recreation Department have been postponed. Pickleball has been moved outdoors, weather permitting.

■More information is available at www.peterboroughrec.com

Library

■The Library is closed to public access. Curbside services are being considered.

■Virtual (online) program is available – see the Library’s website for more details. https://peterboroughtownlibrary.org/

Police

■The Peterborough Police will suspend fingerprinting services for job applicants.

Recycling Center

■The Peterborough Recycling Center will remain open during its regular business hours.

The Town is also recommending that residents practice social distancing (at least six feet away from others) and avoid large crowds and large-scale events. Families are urged not to hold “play dates” and those in need of childcare should limit the number of families involved as much as possible. Public health officials are seeking to slow the spread of COVID-19 to avoid a sudden over-burdening of the region’s healthcare system.

Businesses are asked to report their open/closed status via the survey posted on the Town’s website and Facebook page. The results of this survey will be available to the public, also via the Town’s website and Facebook page.

Many of our residents are looking for ways to help. We suggest the following

■Call, email or text your friends, family, and neighbors, particularly if they are elderly or have underlying health conditions and check on them. If they need supplies, offer to pick them up and drop them off at their door.

■If you are healthy, free of symptoms and have not been in contact with anyone who has become ill recently, consider donating blood at the American Red Cross Blood Drive being held at the Peterborough Community Center on Wednesday, March 18th from 12:00 – 5:00pm. There is a critical shortage, and every donation helps.

A number of our residents may have questions or concerns about the COVID-19 virus including the spread of the disease, risks, and travel advisories. As the information is rapidly changing, and often overwhelming, the Town feels it is best to provide links to sites where the latest information can be found. Although this is not a complete list, these sites will provide comprehensive information on the disease both globally and locally.
