After finding a recent Facebook post in which people were discussing vehicle break-ins in town, Antrim police issued a reminder to report all crimes to the local authorities.

Antrim Sgt. Brian Lord said Friday afternoon that there haven’t been any reports of break-ins since the post, and that it is believed that none of the cases talked about were recent.

“My main focus was to alert people, so they will alert the police rather than talk about it on Facebook,” Lord said. “We take all complaints seriously.”

In general, Lord said he feels that most people are reporting crimes as they happen and that the recent Facebook post represents an “anomaly.”

Talking on Facebook in a group discussion about things is perfectly OK, Lord said, but all crimes should be reported to police.

“There are no active investigations,” Lord said, regarding vehicle break-ins. “We want people to report crimes so we can investigate them.”

Lord said in his own Facebook post on the police department’s Facebook page that if you “see something say something” and give the Antrim police a call at 588-6613 to report suspicious activity.

Lord also reminded everyone to lock their vehicles at all times and to hide or remove all valuables.
