The Caterpillar Lab is coming to the Jaffrey Meetinghouse next week for an evening of exploration and learning about the insect.
The evening is planned for Thursday, Sept.19, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The first hour will be a free exploration and introduction to the Lab’s extensive collection of caterpillars.
A formal talk and slide show on the place of herbivores in the natural world entitled “The Whole Story” will be presented at 7 p.m. by the Lab’s Director, Sam Jaffe.
Jaffe is a naturalist, photographer, and educator who has been working with insects since a very early age. He travels across the country working with museums, nature centers, and schools.
The talk will be a celebration of caterpillars in all their many incarnations which should be of special interest this fall considering the abundance and variety presently in our area.
He will also talk about the mission and role of the Caterpillar Lab in New England. This program will be suitable for school children as well as adults.
The Caterpillar Lab is a non-profit educational outreach organization based in Marlborough. The program is sponsored by the Jaffrey Conservation Commission.
Admission is free.
