Screams of joy rang out from the slopes of Crotched Mountain Thursday night as the ConVal girls’ Alpine ski team discovered they’d taken first place in their season-opening race.

“That is the first win for ConVal since I have been coaching!” said Holly Wilson, who took over the program in 2016. “It was so fun!”

Crotched Mountain was slick with manmade snow on the warm winter day, but ConVal provided enough depth to go around. Wilson said her team has swelled to 25 members, more than any previous season in her tenure, and the benefits were evident. The Cougar girls put three in the top ten, four in the top 11 and six in the top 25 to put away host Hollis-Brookline and their flying Menard sisters, 378-372.

Molly Dishong was third overall in 1:14.82 after a lightning-fast second run of 36.07, the second-fastest individual time of the day. Rosie Crooker was fifth in 1:15.07 and Ella Dishong seventh in 1:17.10. Jaclyn Clark rounded out the scoring positions for ConVal in 11th with a combined 1:19.07.

The ConVal boys’ team wasn’t quite as successful as their counterparts, finishing fifth, but did get a top-five performance from Noah Krason and landed three Cougars in the top 20.

Krason was fifth in 1:11.29; Keenan Wilson took 13th in 1:15.10 and Reid Wilson came in 20th in 1:20.36. Andrew Stockwell was in the final scoring spot for ConVal, finishing 31st in 1:22.75.

Wilton-Lyndeborough’s Ian Van Ham finished 7th in 1:11.80 and teammate Harrison Browne was 24th in 1:21.67.

The Cougars are back at Crotched Mountain on Jan. 3.
