ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders was a finalist for the position of Portsmouth superintendent, but will be staying with ConVal.
The Portsmouth School Board decided to hire Zachary McLaughlin, the superintendent of Springfield Schools in Springfield, Vt.
“I am not looking for another superintendent position,” stated Rizzo Saunders. “The Portsmouth position was a professional opportunity I decided to explore. I remain very happy in my position serving with ConVal, and am looking forward to continuing the work with and for the district.”
ConVal School Board Chair Tim Theberge stated that in his opinion, anyone should feel free to pursue professional opportunities such as this one.
“I’ve applied for many different positions both inside my agency and outside my agency over my 25-year career,” he stated. “Personally, I am happy that the superintendent will be staying with the ConVal district. As an individual board member, I’m also happy that we don’t have to conduct a national search in a highly competitive market where superintendents are retiring or leaving the profession in high numbers.”
