After 25 years with the ConVal School District, social studies teacher Eric Bowman has been nominated for New Hampshire’s Teacher of the Year award.

Bowman is a semifinalist in the annual New Hampshire Department of Education (NHDOE) competition.

According to NHDOE, this year’s competition features the highest number of semifinalists in program history, with 20 teachers from all across the state. Bowman is just one of two teachers from the Monadnock region nominated for the award.

To Bowman, teaching is more than a passion; it’s a lifelong duty to serve students.

“I have been a teacher for about 25 years, all at ConVal,” stated Bowman. “I love the sense of community we have here. My favorite part is being with my students each day. I love how they challenge me and how they respond to the challenges I send their way.”

After learning of his nomination, Bowman stated that he’s humbled to be recognized for his efforts.

“I am honored to be nominated and grateful to the State of New Hampshire for recognizing me as a semifinalist. I don't like attention and would prefer not to talk about myself – there are dozens of people I work with who deserve this as much as I do,” he stated. “I am lucky to work with the staff at ConVal High School, and there are countless teachers in New Hampshire public schools who will go their whole careers without such recognition. The only way I will be comfortable being singled out is if we use it as an opportunity to celebrate all that we do in public schools and to honor the students, and the good teaching that helps them to be their true selves.”

The New Hampshire Department of Education will announce the finalists for 2024 Teacher of the Year in October. The winner will be New Hampshire’s entrant in the National Teacher of the Year program.
