ConVal’s skiing seniors were dressed to the nines as they cruised down the slopes of Crotched Mountain on Thursday for the final meet of their regular season high school career.

There went Reid Wilson in a full green dinosaur costume; David MacKay sped by in a pink poodle skirt; Ella Dishong blazed by in a blue tutu and a businesslike David Martin took his final run.

Thursday’s races were set up in an atypical dual race format, in which two racers skied simultaneously on their respective sides of the parallel red and blue gates lineing the Meteor run. Normally, that might mean ConVal’s skiers would have been going head-to-head with the other skiers from Goffstown, Hollis-Brookline and Souhegan; however, this season’s COVID protocols require racers to descend the slopes one team at a time, which meant the Cougars were lined up against their friends, teammates or even family members.

That added a little extra fun to the senior sendoff; spectators could hear sisters Ella and Molly Dishong long before they could see the dynamic duo shouting back and forth at each other as they raced side-by-side.

It was truly the final Crotched race for the ConVal boys, who’ll head off to Cranmore for the Division II championship races on Tuesday. Martin, not weighed down by the accoutrements his senior teammates opted for, was the top ConVal finisher, taking eighth in 1:07.8. The rest of ConVal’s scoring positions were filled out by Owen Kotula (ninth, 1:07.34), Carter Rousseau (12th, 1:08.81) and Fletcher Maggs (13th, 1:09.31). Perhaps proving that pink poodle skirts and bulky dino costumes don’t improve one’s racing speeds, Mackay (15th, 1:10.79) and Wilson (18th, 1:12.77) finished out of the top 10.

Wilton-Lyndeborough junior Nathan Browne took 20th in 1:12.87.

The ConVal girls will be back at Crotched one more time, as the girls’ Division II alpine skiing championships are in Bennington on Wednesday. The Cougars will be hoping for a repeat performance from Molly Dishong, who won Thursday’s race in 1:00.47 a full three seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Ella Dishong was right behind, taking third in 1:04.65. ConVal finished second as a team; also scoring were Jennifer Hopkins (13th, 1:08.34) and Caitlin Beal (15th, 1:0 8.92).
