As part of WMUR’s annual NH Tackles Hunger food drive, ConVal Athletics accepted food and monetary donations at all home sports matches on Friday, Sept. 22, a day after the high school collected items at the school’s open house.

Community volunteers and Friends of ConVal Athletics (FCVA) were also part of the effort.

NH Tackles Hunger is an annual event put on by WMUR in which high schools around the state partner to collect nonperishable and shelf-stable food items and donations for local food pantries. The drive was held the week of Sept. 18 to 22.

ConVal also created a Teachers in Academic Support Centers (TASC) homeroom challenge, with the goal of being the TASC homeroom that raised the most donations by the end of the week. ConVal’s National Honors Society volunteered their services to visit each of the homerooms to collect the donations.

ConVal collected a total of $270.82 and 980 pounds of food, which will be donated to those in need.

“We are so proud of our community, especially our students who have poured their energy into this drive throughout the past week to make an impact on their community,” stated Kimberly Rizzo Saunders. “In the words of WMUR, ConVal has been the gold standard in this annual food drive, and we couldn’t be happier with how our school chooses to give back to its community.”
