ConVal has narrowed the search for a new high school principal to two candidates and may accept one as early as Tuesday. The search started after former principal Michelle Voto resigned at the end of this school year.

The two finalists are Dr. Dorothy Mohr and Heather McKillop. Mohr was previously principal at Pelham High School and interim principal in Farmington, and McKillop is currently assistant principal at Nashua High School North. The hiring committee is checking references for both candidates and will likely make a decision on Tuesday, ConVal Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders said. 25 people applied for the job and the hiring team interviewed seven, she said.

In 2017, the last time ConVal searched for a high school principal, it involved a nationwide search for candidates that lasted a year. Voto was selected while working as assistant director of the Region 14 Applied Technology Center, and spent a transitional year as dean of faculty before finally becoming principal at the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

When asked why this hiring process was abbreviated in comparison, Rizzo Saunders said it was mostly due to the short notice they received about the vacancy. “We had to look really quickly,” she said, and, since the last extended search process was fairly recent, the administration felt they could still refer to the information they collected about the school community’s thoughts and desires from the last round of hiring.

How is ConVal addressing continuity with three principals in the last four years? The high school’s leadership team remains largely intact, Rizzo Saunders said. Members include Dean of Students Steve Bartsch, Director of Applied Technology Center Jennifer Kiley, Athletic Director John Reitnauer, and Teaching Administrators Carol Young and Greg Morris. The hiring committee is comprised of parents, teachers, administrators, a student, and a School Board member, Rizzo Saunders said, who would be able to be identified after the hiring was complete.
