ConVal wrestling got some big wins last week, as Cougar star Dan Curran faced and beat his toughest opponent to date this year.

Curran, a senior and the top-ranked wrestler in the state at 170 lbs., faced Alvirne’s freshman sensation Kyle Gora on Wednesday.

The two circled each other, Gora on the defensive, Curran probing for a handhold. Curran got his man to the ground, applied a hold, got a point; Gora reversed, got Curran down, got a point. The seesaw battled continued for the entirety of the match and into four overtime periods before Curran pulled off the 5-4 victory.

Ethan Earle also won for the Cougars against Alvirne.

On Saturday, ConVal headed up to Colchester, Vermont for a day of tournament wrestling. The Cougars returned with a few wins and the Team Sportsmanship Award, as well as a Tournament Outstanding Wrestler award for Curran.

Curran was first in his weight class, Matt Kimball second and Ethan Earle fourth.
