Students attend career fair at ConVal High School

Students from Great Brook School and South Meadow School recently attended a career fair at ConVal High School.

The eighth-grade students interacted with more than 20 community partners representing six career pathways: arts and communication, business management and technology, industrial and engineering technology, health services, human services and natural resources and agriculture.

During the fair, students had a “Career Passport” that they completed by visiting at least three specific employers that piqued their interest. While speaking with the employers, students gathered information about positions, training and salaries.

“We plan to grow this event each year as we maintain and build our community partnerships,” High School Principal Heather McKillop stated. “Our students and partners provided great feedback, and we’re grateful to everyone who helped make this event a success.”

The event was designed to integrate what students have been learning this year in their Career Exploration instruction using the Xello learning platform. The instruction is designed to help students personalize their learning experiences, meet college and career readiness requirements and gain future-ready skills so that they are prepared for their next steps both in school and in their careers.

“It’s important for our students to have the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their futures, whether they attend college or jumpstart their careers,” stated Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders. “The career fair was a great opportunity for these students to network and build their knowledge on what career pathways they are potentially interested in. Thank you to everyone who supported this event and provided thoughtful insight for our students.”
