Head coach Adam Patria and the Conant girls’ soccer team hoped they’d turned a corner after a tight overtime game with powerhouse Campbell last week, but Wednesday’s matchup with Raymond proved otherwise.

“We thought it was a turning point,” Patria said. “The energy and the quality of play end line to end line… It’s a Jekyll and Hyde act between Friday and today.”

Between a handful of defensive miscues, an inability to creating scoring chances and a white-hot game by Raymond’s Kathryn LaCasse, it was a 6-0 win for the Rams. LaCasse scored three goals herself, and if that wasn’t enough to dampen the Orioles’ spirits, junior captain Jillian Patria went down with a knee injury late in the blowout and was helped back to the sidelines by her father.

“The team is a little down right now,” coach Patria said, “but overall, attitudes are good. We have good senior leadership from our two seniors, so hopefully we don’t take this too badly because we have Bishop Brady on Friday.”
