Conant gymnast Heather Gonyea won’t get her shot at a New England championship thanks to coronavirus fears.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, the governing body responsible for Saturday’s New England championship meet in Fairfield, Connecticut recently canceled all state sports tournaments.

“[Coronavirus] has just begun here and we don’t know how far this will spread," CIAC executive director Glenn Lungarini told local media outlets.

Gonyea, Conant’s lone independent gymnast who practiced and traveled with the Keene High School team, qualified for the New England championships after finishing in the top 50 in four events at the NHIAA championship meet, including an 18th-place finish in the vault.
