A Fitzwilliam woman was killed in a head-on crash on Route 119 in Rindge on Wednesday morning.

According to Rindge police, Kristine Gallant, 68, of Fitzwilliam was driving eastbound on Route 119 in the area of Abel Road around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when her 2015 Chevrolet Equinox crossed over the center line and struck a westbound fully loaded 2009 International dump truck head-on.

The dump truck, driven by Jonah Ketola, 46, of Rindge, was propelled across both lanes of traffic, while the Equinox spun and collided with an eastbound 2011 Ford F-150 driven by Paulette Wright, 57, of Winchester. All the vehicles came to rest on the eastbound shoulder of Route 119.

The Equinox, with Gallant still inside, sustained heavy damage and caught fire. Bystanders on the scene were able to extinguish the fire before emergency crews arrives, but Gallant was pronounced dead on the scene. Witnesses observed the Equinox swerve several times before the crash, and initial investigation indicates Gallant may have suffered a medical emergency leading to the crash.

Ketola and a juvenile passenger were assessed on the scene and declined treatment. Wright was taken to Monadnock Community Hospital to be evaluated for chest and neck pain.

The crash resulted in a large amount of diesel fuel spilled on the roadway, which was closed for several hours for cleanup.

The crash remains under investigation. Witnesses with any additional information are asked to contact Sgt. Rachel Malynowski at the Rindge Police Department at 603-899-5009.
