Steven W. Crowe Foundation names new board members

The Steven W. Crowe Foundation has named Hancock native William Callif and Peterborough resident Steven Smith to its board of directors.

The foundation, a nonprofit organization, focuses on the education, health, welfare and athletics in the ConVal region. Steven Crowe, a Peterborough native and graduate of ConVal High School and Providence College, was killed in a car accident in 1987. Since its inception in 1998, the foundation has made contributions to programs that have special needs and gives preference to children’s organizations, organizations that provide support to underprivileged individuals and families and programs designed for the overall improvement of the ConVal community.

Callif, an attorney with Devine Millimet in Manchester, attended Hancock Elementary School and Great Brook School before going to the New Hampton School in New Hampton. At New Hampton, he played football, lacrosse, and hockey. While earning his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross, Callif was a four-year member of the rowing team. Before attending Suffolk Law School, he earned a master’s degree from Brandeis University. He lives in Boston with his wife, Ana.

Smith is a freelance editor and photographer. He is also the co-administrator of ConVal Hoop Heritage, an online account of the school’s 100-year basketball history. He was a longtime sports editor for the former Peterborough Transcript. Smith is a 1972 graduate of ConVal High School and a 1976 Plymouth State University graduate. He can be found at most ConVal sporting events with his camera. He lives in Peterborough.
