The Cathedral of the Pines, 10 Hale Hill Road in Rindge, is entering its 78th year of operation and is now open year-round to the public.

To inaugurate this newly expanded season, the cathedral is presenting an afternoon of music with Dave McLellan, a Boston-based veteran classical guitarist, Sunday, March 26, at 2 p.m.

McLellan is the son of Margaret McLellan, the widow of Lt. Sanderson Sloane, in whose memory the cathedral was founded. He will be performing “The Colorful 20th Century Guitar.”

“It is an honor to have Dave play for us,” stated Bill Sloane, Cathedral of the Pines trustee and program committee chair.

McLellan has served on the faculties of the University of Hartford Hartt School and the University of Connecticut. He is a recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the D’Addario Foundation. The grants supported his concerts of American guitar duo music with duo partner Neil Anderson.

Additional accolades include the Town of Harvard Artist in Residence Program and first prize in the Concerts Atlantique competitions.

“This novel program will reflect the ‘Concerts in Your Living Room’ concept created by the artist,” Sloane stated. “This concept features Dave performing beloved solo classical guitar works in private recitals in intimate settings such as private homes to help raise funds for nonprofit organizations.”

Seating for this event will be arranged in a semicircle surrounding the artist in front of the stone fireplace in the newly-renovated Hilltop House.  Refreshments will include wine and cheese by donation and home-baked items. Admission is $20. All proceeds from this performance will benefit Cathedral of the Pines programs.
