Mansfield Public Library will host the Dirigo Vintage Base Ball Club against a team of local players Sept. 17 at noon at Memorial Field.

The Dirigo Vintage Base Ball Club out of Maine is a nonprofit educational and living history organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the game of baseball as it was played during its formative years in the mid-19th century and other historic eras. They educate others about the beginnings of the game through living history “base ball” games and educational presentations to area museums, historical societies and schools.

The exhibition game will be played according to 1860 rules and customs. Most notably, pitchers will throw underhand, batters will use rounded bats and fielders will play without gloves. The Temple Townies will be made up of local residents, including former ConVal baseball players, town officials and baseball enthusiasts.

For information, contact the Mansfield Public Library at 603-878-3100.
