Plug-in electric-vehicle drivers, supporters and interested local residents are invited to attend the Drive Electric event Saturday, Sept. 24, from noon to 4 p.m. at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge.

Sponsored by the Monadnock Sustainability Hub and the university’s Institute for Climate Action, the event is intended to showcase the clean-air benefits, cost savings and driving enjoyment offered by electric vehicles. Electric-vehicle owners will  answer questions and offer rides and test drives. This event is free and open to the public.

This event is one of hundreds of Drive E events across the country, as part of National Drive Electric Week, where electric-vehicle owners, government and community leaders are holding electric car parades, “tailpipe-free” tailgate parties, ride-and-drives and other public events to celebrate electric vehicles.

Catherine Koning, professor of environmental science and coordinator of the Institute for Climate Action at FPU, stated that the university, which has recently installed an EV charging station open to the public, “is proud to be celebrating National Drive Electric Week and to be partnering with MSH to provide students and local residents a hands-on experience of the road transportation of the future.”

For its fifth year of Drive E events, the Monadnock Sustainability Hub has also coordinated with organizations such as Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association to put on this event.
