The driver of a tractor trailer truck that left the scene after striking a telephone pole in Jaffrey Thursday has been identified, according to police.

At approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday, witnesses reported seeing a tractor trailer unit with an oversized load traveling in the intersection of River Street and Charlonne Street, according to Jaffrey police Lt. Christopher LeBreque.

“The tractor trailer unit struck a telephone pole as it went by. It did not stop and continued on,” LeBreque said.

The pole was damaged and had to be removed and replaced, interrupting power in the area, including to Jaffrey Grade School, which was forced to release students early, according to LeBreque. The road was closed during the replacement, necessitating a detour for Jaffrey and Rindge which required moving truck traffic through Cathedral Road to Turnpike Road.

Jaffrey Police, with assistance from State Police Troop G were able to identify the trucking company the tractor trailer unit belonged to, and have identified the driver, according to LeBreque, but have not released their name.

“That is still part of the ongoing investigation. He has been identified, and he did come voluntarily to speak with us,” LeBreque said.

Jaffrey police are investigating potential charges related to the crash.
