The Dublin Community Center’s next coffee house and open mic night will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20.

A monthly sponsor provides the coffee, and attendees are welcome to bring their own beverages. A featured performance takes place for about 45 to 60 minutes, with open mic slots available after.

This month’s featured performer is Volkert Volkersz. Volkersz has been active in the Monadnock acoustic music scene since moving here from Washington state in 2016, writing songs about topics that include love, peace, creativity, life in New Hampshire and the Pacific Northwest, farming, the weather, insects, cars and trucks, Robert Frost and spirituality. He has also composed acoustic guitar instrumentals.

Volkersz has appeared at the Keene Music Festival, Peterborough’s Children and the Arts Festival, the Hancock Depot Cabaret, the “Notes” series in Jaffrey, the Keene and Peterborough farmers’ markets, at various libraries and open mics. Two of his holiday songs have been featured on NHPR’s “The Folk Show.” He has posted more than 125 songs to his YouTube channel since the pandemic began in March 2020, including originals, covers of his favorite artists such as Bob Dylan and The Beatles, poetry he has set to music, children’s music and more, receiving upwards of 67,000 views.

Having served as program coordinator at the DubHub for five years, during which time he hosted the monthly open stage and several benefit concerts, he is currently the circulation librarian at Dublin Public Library, where he does monthly “Stories & Songs” for children.

Send email to info@dublincommunitycenter.org to reserve a spot on the open mic sign-up, or just show up at 1123 Main St. to seek an open spot on the list.
