One firefighter and one resident were transported to Monadnock Community Hospital and released after a house fire Monday on Valley Road in Dublin.

“The home was at the end of Valley Road, and this made getting our apparatuses there tricky,” Dublin Fire Chief Tom Vanderbilt said Wednesday morning. 

The call came in at 7:58 p.m. Firefighters contained the blaze to one room, where the contents also sustained damage. According to Vanderbilt, the fire started in a corner room on the second floor.

“Flames were exiting the second-floor windows when we arrived. We’re not sure of the origin of the fire yet,” said Vanderbilt Wednesday morning. 

Crews from Peterborough and Jaffrey also responded to the fire.

“The mutual aid system is more important than ever. We’re lucky too that at the time the call came in we had a full crew here,” Vanderbilt said. 

A firefighter experienced some chest pain while fighting the fire and was transported to the hospital. A resident was also transported to MCH as a precaution.

“The resident got out, but was a bit singed,” Vanderbilt said.

Vanderbilt could not say whether the residence is habitable as of Wednesday morning.  

“Sprinklers can make a big difference in a lot of situations like that,”  he said.
