This spring, Dublin residents who fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars will be honored with honor roll plaques recognizing their service.

Brian Barden, chair of the town’s Memorial Day Committee and himself a Vietnam veteran, said the town already has plaques honoring those who fought in World War I and World War II, and he has long wished that those in more-recent conflicts were given the same recognition.

“I just thought it was fitting,” Barden said. “I’ve been thinking about it for 10 years, and decided it was time to do something about it.”

Barden said the town should recognize those men in the same way they were already recognizing those who fought in World Wars I and II.

Barden spearheaded the effort to write a warrant article for the cost of the plaques, with the help of Hank and Nancy Campbell, Dale Gabel and Wayne and Dee Thomas, Kiki Sangermano and Lisa Foote. During Town Meeting in 2021, voters approved a warrant article for $17,270 to purchase and install the two plaques, as well as to clean the existing plaques for those who served in World War I and World War II.

The plaques were made by John Kaufhold of Peterborough Marble and Granite. The plaques will join the World War I and World War II honor roll plaques already on display in front of the Dublin Town Hall, and are expected to be installed this spring, prior to Memorial Day.
