A routine day of traffic control turned into a high-speed pursuit for Dublin Police Chief Tim Suokko on Friday.

Around 3:30 p.m., Suokko was at the intersection of Routes 101 and 137 when he saw a gray Honda CRV pass by at “a high rate of speed.” Suokko attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver was not compliant.

“The vehicle sped up, started passing cars,” Suokko said. “I got into a pursuit with him.”

Suokko said the driver, Michael Dansereau of Milford, took him on a chase at speeds of over 100 MPH through Harrisville, back into Dublin and then into Marlborough, weaving through traffic and avoiding several sets of spike strips.

“It was definitely a dangerous situation,” Suokko said.

With Marlborough police on the scene in their downtown, Dansereau eventually crashed his car into the Knowlton Street bridge, where he was apprehended.

Suokko said Dansereau has had his license revoked since 2005 and faces a felony-level charge for operating as a habitual offender.

“That’s the reason we believe he was running,” Suokko said.
