The Dublin Broadband Committee hosted a public forum at the Town Hall on Tuesday to answer residents’ questions about the 1.35 million dollar bond they hope to put forward at this year’s town meeting in order to secure broadband internet for every resident in town.

The committee is finalizing a contract with Consolidated Communications, Inc., which has guaranteed payment for the bond, member Sturdy Thomas said. 18 residents came to Tuesday’s forum, and there are more informational hearings scheduled through February and early March, Thomas said. Dublin residents ought to know that it will not affect the tax rate, and the contract would involve the entire town, from Marlborough to Peterborough, he said. “Everybody will have the option to be connected to fiber.”

Thomas said community reception to the proposal has been “very good” so far. “I’m very excited, I look forward to getting it finished”.

The proposal is set to be discussed during a budget bond hearing on February 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall. Additional informational hearings have been scheduled for Feb. 15, and March 3.
