Longtime firefighter Gregg Eastman has been appointed as the new fire chief in Greenville.

Eastman, who currently works for the town of Greenville in the Highway Department, said he’s been fascinated by emergency services for decades, and first became interested in joining in the late 1970s, after witnessing a motorcycle accident in New Ipswich. He wanted to help, he said, but didn’t have the skills. When emergency services responded, he knew he wanted to get involved.

“I want to serve my community, and keep serving my community,” Eastman said.

Eastman first joined the New Ipswich Fire Department, where he served for 22 years. He later joined the Greenville Fire Department, and has been serving there for 14 years, including holding the rank of captain for the past 10 years. He was acting as the assistant chief when former Chief Chief Charles Buttrick stepped down.

Eastman also has 28 years of experience as an EMT on the Souhegan Valley Ambulance Service.
